1. Mechanical properties
The matrix must do a mechanical job: support the implant, hold a defined pocket and retain sutures. Relevant characteristics include tensile strength, tear and suture-retention behaviour, thickness and elasticity. 2. Integration and revascularisation
A defining question: is the matrix designed and shown to be repopulated and revascularised, or does it tend to be encapsulated?
