Fat Dialysis

Fat dialysis is a brief and active purification process that removes, in a continuous and gentle way, tumescent fluid, blood (red and white blood cells), oil and excess fluid from harvested fat.

EXAFAT employs a microfiltration technology with 50-micron pores, allowing liquid waste to pass through under controlled hydrostatic pressure while the purified fat — including the SVF niche — is retained.

The Result

Significant reduction of toxic and inflammatory triggers while maintaining the structural integrity and biological viability of the dialyzed adipose tissue.

Although both dialysis and centrifugation effectively concentrate fat, the dialysis method preserves a higher level of residual hydration without compromising the purified fat volume yield. This feature may positively impact graft take because:

1) It helps protect adipocytes and stromal cells from mechanical damage during injection

2) It enhances injectability and promotes a more uniform fat distribution within the recipient site

Current literature supports the idea that maintaining a certain degree of hydration — though not precisely defined — can help preserve cellular components and facilitate injection. In contrast, excessive dehydration has been associated with increased shear stress and reduced adipocyte viability (Coleman 2007; Conde-Green 2013; Sierra-Sánchez 2020)

The EXAFAT samples (Fig. 1 & 2) exhibit a uniform composition, free from oil and red blood cells (RBCs).
In contrast, the images of the lipoaspirate obtained using the Coleman technique (Fig. 3 & 4) show blurred sections, indicating RBCs.

Two Cannulas. Every Tissue Type.

Two blunt-tip cannulas with different tips: round tip for regular tissue and spatulated tip for scar tissue. Both cannulas share 2.1mm diameter to reduce the fat shear stress, a 150mm length for consistent 1mL ribbon delivery, and are bendable to optimize the injection precision and contour.
